Niagara Furniture Bank gave me a home when I needed it

I had been a drug addict even since I was 19 . My mom had to kick me out of the house when I was 20 because of my drug use. Things were not looking great for me. I used to work at a Tim Hortons. But that didn't last long because I used to show up for my shifts being extremely high.  At first I surfed through my different friends houses. But that didn't last long because once I got too high and punched my friend in the face, resulting in his face being covered in blood. So none of friends was comfortable having me in their houses. So not long after I found myself on the streets. Due to my previous experiences, I couldn't get any job in St Catharines. So I had to move to Welland to start fresh. But I didn't even have a place to stay .

So I went to the Hope Centre they provided me with shelter and food. They gave me a volunteer who helped me on finding a place to stay. They helped me get in touch with YMCA and they were able to get me a job in Welland itself. With the help of my case worker, I was able to find a place to stay . But I needed furniture for the place. I did not even have a mattress.

“ Your life changes the moment you make a new, congruent, and committed decision. ”

As a result YMCA got me in touch with Niagara Furniture bank. when I told them my situation they were really understanding and polite to me . All I had to do was fill their online Application Form. They add me to their internal referral program. An a week later told me that I got approved for all my requested furniture. The provided me with the needed mattresses and dressers and a lot more items. They even went as far as bringing me kitchen utensils for me . I am really satisfied with what I have got. And I want to thank everyone that helped to get me back up in life.

Dear Community, Staff, Partners, Donors and Friends,

Niagara Furniture Bank has been an integral part of the community since 2008, we have seen our fair share of ups and downs and have always persevered. The goal of this organization has always been to serve those in need as no one ever deserves to sleep on the floor. Due to the Pandemic, unforeseen circumstances and financial hardship the Niagara Furniture Bank has had to make the hard decision to temporarily close as of May 13, 2022. This decision did not come lightly and we weighed all options prior to closure. Efforts are ongoing to explore the feasibility to continue supporting our community.

We ask for patience, understanding and empathy during this time.

Sincerely,
