Toolbox Niagara

We are super excited here at the Niagara Furniture Bank about the fact that this year we are partnering with James Symon, the man responsible for bringing the Toolbox Niagara Project as a volunteer and a member of our community, to help collect donations for men experiencing poverty and homelessness in our community, and to help distribute them also!

Last year, James had a vision of filling 25 tool boxes for Toolbox Niagara; with donated items like hygiene products for men, small entertainment gifts, and socks for example, to be distributed to members of our Niagara community who are experiencing homelessness and poverty.

According to an article from the St. Catharines Standard, James last year far exceeded his expectations of collecting 25 boxes.  The community came together and James ended up “handing over more than 360 boxes to be distributed through Start Me Up Niagara. The Salvation Army St Catharines Salvation Army’s Mobile Outreach. Along with Southridge Shelter, Community Care of St. Catharines and Thorold, OUT of the COLD and the The Hope Centre.

Niagara Furniture Bank to lend a hand in collecting, sorting, creating and delivery

This year, James hopes to collect enough donations to fill and distribute 500 toolboxes alongside the Niagara Furniture Bank and with the help of our community supports, such as businesses and individuals across the region.

The Niagara Furniture Bank is simply thrilled to be able to donate our time and space as an official drop off location in the downtown core for the city of St. Catharines and surrounding communities.

EVERYONE is encouraged to participate in any capacity. All donations help whether it be one or a case of items. Everything you can give is greatly appreciated and will go towards creating an inclusive and joyous holiday season for our Niagara residents and the community we serve. While the donation drop off is effective immediately, we do not yet have a deadline date at this time but we do know that it will be around the first week of December and will be posted to notify you in the very near future.

Not only will the Niagara Furniture Bank be collecting donations at our drop box inside our front doors located at 53 Ontario St. Catharines between 9:00 am-3:00pm Monday – Friday, but our Executive Director Matt Cuthbert, will also be helping to sort, fill, and deliver the wonderfully packed toolbox gifts alongside James this year to the members we serve.

Our Offices are Temporary Closed

For immediate Release – June 7, 2022

Dear Community, Staff, Partners, Donors and Friends,

Niagara Furniture Bank has been an integral part of the community since 2008, we have seen our fair share of ups and downs and have always persevered. The goal of this organization has always been to serve those in need as no one ever deserves to sleep on the floor. Due to the Pandemic, unforeseen circumstances and financial hardship the Niagara Furniture Bank has had to make the hard decision to temporarily close as of May 13, 2022. This decision did not come lightly and we weighed all options prior to closure. Efforts are ongoing to explore the feasibility to continue supporting our community.

We ask for patience, understanding and empathy during this time.
